Mutsuki carried two triple torpedo mounts and 12 torpedoes, providing a complete set of reloads. Four Type 3 120 mm guns accompanied depth charges, mine-carrying provision and two 7.7 mm antiaircraft machine guns. Its stated range was 3,600 nautical miles at 14 knots. The combination made a capable destroyer, but the cruising range remained restrictive for repeated attacks far from Japanese bases.
