Murasame and Akizuki move toward indigenous command ships

The Murasame and Akizuki classes show Japan moving from escort continuity toward larger, more independent flotilla-leader designs.

Notes

The Murasame class continues the escort line, restoring heavier guns while strengthening anti-submarine flotillas. Akizuki and Teruzuki were larger command destroyers, fitted with improved ASW weapons and intended to lead formations. Their purpose and capability sit alongside contemporary British Daring-class and American Forrest Sherman-class destroyers. Japan was increasingly shaping competitive destroyers around its own command, escort, and industrial requirements instead of copying American advice wholesale.
