Munitions spending and Type 45 air-defence upgrades are weighed

The review moves from 3 percent GDP claims to munitions stockpiles, Sea Viper, Type 45 retirement timing, and homeland missile defence gaps.

Notes

The plan claims that defence spending will reach 3 percent of GDP in the next parliament and 3.5 percent by 2035. Its munitions allocation is more concrete than some of the distant platform promises. The air and missile defence programme is less convincing because Type 45 retirement timing conflicts with planned Sea Viper upgrades. A new operations centre also supplies little substance for the broader claim of UK-wide missile defence.
