The next prototype, Mother, appeared in 1916, after Churchill was no longer First Lord of the Admiralty. During 1915 he had helped establish the project firmly enough for development to continue. His departure therefore did not end work towards a viable weapon. Tank development also overlapped with his involvement in Gallipoli, the next initiative considered in this series.
