Moon Sound shows the cost of minimum-force planning

Germany wins at Moon Sound but takes avoidable losses by sending only the minimum force while much of the High Seas Fleet remains available.

Notes

Moon Sound was a German victory, yet its losses still expose careless force allocation. Germany sent ten battleships and a battlecruiser against a much smaller Russian force while much of the High Seas Fleet remained available. Mines, submarines, and coastal waters imposed predictable risks, including the loss of several minesweepers. A stronger concentration could have overwhelmed the defenses faster and reduced exposure. Winning the operation does not make the decision to use the bare minimum prudent.
