Mogador's nearly 40-knot speed demanded guns and torpedoes that could operate effectively at that pace. The 550 mm Model 1923 DT torpedoes offered 39 knots for nine kilometres or 35 knots for thirteen kilometres. Two twin and two triple launchers supplied five torpedoes per side. During a fast tangential attack, turning across the first salvo to fire the opposite battery risked crossing the torpedoes' path. The slower long-range setting made the mismatch worse, limiting the ship's choice of manoeuvre after launching. The guns also needed enough electrical power and targeting performance to remain effective at maximum speed. Faster contemporary foreign torpedoes show that a weapon better suited to the ship's speed was possible.

Mogador's speed outran its torpedoes
Mogador's 39-knot and 35-knot torpedo settings constrained manoeuvres by a destroyer capable of nearly 40 knots.
