Chapter ยท 9:14-11:02

The cranes and power behind containerized weapons

Forty-foot weapons containers still need suitable cranes, harbor facilities, and power connections, even where modular equipment is a useful choice.

Notes

Putting every naval weapon in a 40-foot shipping container would create its own handling requirements. Specialist cranes and the limited harbors equipped for them could require further investment in naval yards. Other lifting arrangements are possible, but compatible power connections and supporting equipment are still necessary. Modular containers remain useful on selected ships. Converting a container ship into an arsenal ship is one plausible application; it does not establish that all warships should use the same approach.
