The Borodinos formed a narrow modern Russian core

Four Borodino-class battleships were the expedition's only modern, comparatively trained, and coherent heavy core.

Notes

The four Borodino-class ships were the newest and strongest center of the Russian fleet. Knyaz Suvorov served simultaneously as Rozhestvensky's division, squadron, and fleet flagship, concentrating much of the expedition's command in one hull. The fifth ship, Slava, was not ready to sail and would instead demonstrate the design's combat value in the Baltic during World War I. No Russian ship launched in 1904 or 1905 joined the expedition. The resulting force had a credible four-ship modern core surrounded by less coherent and less capable material.
