Question

Is the AK-130 the best modern warship main gun?

Short answer

No; among the choices discussed, the OTO 127 mm is preferred for its range options, versatility, and sustained development.

Notes

The preferred choices are the OTO 127 mm gun and the American Mark 45 5-inch gun, with the OTO taking first place in this comparison. The AK-130 receives qualified praise, alongside a concern about its traverse. Range options and versatility count in the OTO's favour. The British 4.5-inch gun is criticised for insufficient recent investment. Attention to the Advanced Gun System is also blamed for a period of neglect of the American 5-inch gun, whereas investment in the OTO continued.
