Modern deception hides inside too much information

Electronic warfare can suppress emissions, imitate other forces, and overload surveillance systems with plausible contacts rather than simply denying data.

Notes

Traditional jamming differs from systems that project signatures or apparent force concentrations in the wrong place. Emission control can make a ship harder to classify, while platforms such as the EA-18G Growler can add deceptive contacts rather than simply obscuring a radar screen. Satellites and reconnaissance aircraft still have finite coverage, predictable movement, and limited analytical capacity. A navy can therefore conceal action by flooding the observer's decision loop with more plausible information than it can confidently sort.
