Modern commerce war changes the torpedo math

Larger merchant ships, limited torpedo loads, and vulnerable satellite surveillance change the arithmetic of a modern commerce campaign.

Notes

A modern commerce campaign would face different arithmetic from its World War II counterpart. Container ships are larger and fewer, but their size and compartmentalization may require several torpedoes to sink. Each attack would therefore consume a significant share of a submarine's limited weapon load. Satellites could help locate targets, although wartime interference would make that surveillance part of the contest rather than a guaranteed solution.
