Modern coastal defense can use mobile teams as tripwires

Small missile teams can fire, withdraw, and leapfrog between prepared positions, while air-defense and deeper forces keep the coastal network viable.

Notes

The Martello-tower idea can be adapted to a dispersed mobile defense. The Cold War analogy uses a three- or four-person anti-tank missile team in a light vehicle that fires, withdraws, and sets up again before the enemy closes. Two vehicles can leapfrog so one covers while the other relocates, turning a small force into a recurring tripwire instead of a single fixed strongpoint. Longer-ranged anti-ship missiles allow similar methods along a coast. The network still needs air-defense missiles and deeper supporting layers because exposed launchers cannot impose delay if hostile aircraft can destroy them freely.
