Mobile infrastructure sustains maritime power

Floating docks made repair capacity deployable rather than permanently tied to the harbor where it was built.

Notes

A floating dock could be built in one place and moved to another. Unlike a fixed basin, it could follow changing operational geography and bring heavy maintenance capacity closer to a fleet. This mobility gave the Admiralty unusual control over a support asset whose location would otherwise depend on local land and government decisions. The same principle suggests how future transport systems might use repair sites that can move with their users.
