A moving airbase changes the enemy's targeting problem

Carrier mobility shortens friendly strike routes and forces an opponent to find, track, and attack an airbase whose position keeps changing.

Notes

Long-range land-based aircraft must return to a fixed place for fuel, weapons, and maintenance, and that base can itself be targeted. A carrier moves its aviation support closer to the operating area while continually changing position. Satellites and other observers can eventually find the ship. The advantage lies in the time consumed by finding and tracking it. During that delay, the carrier can inflict damage, force defensive expenditure, and move again before an effective counterattack arrives.
