The proposed attacking force mixed roughly three regular torpedo destroyers with each Tribal. Tribals could undertake scouting, while I, J and K ships supplied ten torpedoes apiece. The illustrative estimate gives about 35 torpedoes for a four-ship group, compared with 32 from four older eight-torpedo destroyers. Scaled to a 32-destroyer attack containing eight Tribals, the estimate reaches about 280 torpedoes. These are illustrative force totals: mixing different destroyer types need not reduce the formation's overall torpedo weight.

Torpedo weight in a mixed destroyer flotilla
A three-to-one mix of torpedo destroyers and Tribals could retain a heavy torpedo broadside while providing scouts.
