Charles F. Adams combines guided missiles with guns and ASW

The Charles F. Adams class retained guns and anti-submarine weapons alongside guided missiles, but lacked aircraft facilities and used demanding high-pressure boilers.

Notes

The Charles F. Adams class combined radar and guided missiles with ASROC, torpedo tubes, and two 5-inch guns. It lacked aircraft facilities, which limited the capabilities available from its own hull. Built in the late 1950s and commissioned in the 1960s, these destroyers offered a broad mix of weapons for the early missile era. Later options included Standard Missile and Harpoon. Their roughly 33-knot performance also carried a maintenance cost when their high-pressure boilers were used hard.
