Missile seekers, pop-up manoeuvres and CAMM development

Manoeuvrability and wider seeker coverage address attackers trying to escape an interceptor's detection cone.

Notes

Sea Wolf development continued through the 1990s, while Falklands experience and ideas from that programme contributed to CAMM. Better manoeuvrability helps an interceptor respond to a target changing direction or altitude. A pop-up manoeuvre can move an attacking missile outside an interceptor's detection cone before it descends again. Wider radar and sensor coverage can make that escape harder. The timing of a pop-up can also help an attacker cross above gunfire.
