Mine countermeasures and survey ships for port access

Forward-based mine countermeasures vessels and a retained hydrographic squadron would keep overseas approaches, British ports, and operational waters usable.

Notes

Four mine-countermeasures vessels would remain in the Gulf, with further units based around Singapore and British home waters. Portsmouth, Plymouth, Southampton, and the Medway are examples of ports where mines could obstruct naval and commercial movement. Forward forces depend on accessible operating bases and home ports. The hydrographic squadron, including HMS Scott and the smaller Echo-class ships, supplies the charting and seabed knowledge required for safe operations.
