Military fiction occupies an awkward place in a military historian's leisure reading. Friends often give books by Richard Woodman, Dale Brown, Bernard Cornwell, Tom Clancy, and similar authors, so a large collection has accumulated. The books are enjoyable, but a fictional version of the day job does not always provide much of a break. Personal purchases therefore tend toward something further removed, represented here by Terry Pratchett.
