Military-class trawlers varied from ship to ship

The large Military class paired a 4-inch gun and deep depth-charge outfit with unusually varied light weapons and crew-driven modifications.

Notes

At roughly 843 tons, the Military class occupied the large end of the wartime trawler spectrum. Its nominal fit included a 4-inch gun, four to eight 20 mm Oerlikons, and sixty-five depth charges, giving a small crew considerable anti-aircraft and anti-submarine firepower. Photographs show wide variation in the number and arrangement of light weapons, including different mixtures of single and twin mounts. Close-knit crews lived aboard these ships as well as fought them, and they altered their vessels accordingly. Individual ships could therefore differ markedly in both equipment and appearance.
