Reading beyond Shattered Sword on Midway

Shattered Sword is a useful starting point, while a USNI documentary guide and broader carrier studies add current scholarship and strategic context.

Question

If Shattered Sword is not the final word on Midway, what else should a reader consult?

Short answer

Add Thomas Hone's USNI guide The Battle of Midway and broader carrier studies such as The Rise of the Aircraft Carrier and Turning the Tide.

Notes

Shattered Sword is recommended as an entry point rather than the final word on Midway. The Battle of Midway, edited by Thomas Hone, is a Naval Institute guide that reflects more recent academic trends. The Rise of the Aircraft Carrier and Turning the Tide provide wider carrier and Pacific-war context. Together these works let a reader compare operational reconstruction with broader strategic interpretation.
