Michael Clapp commanded the amphibious task group during the Falklands War while coping with difficult communications and organizations unused to operating together. He forged those elements into a coherent formation for an opposed landing under sustained air attack. His book and public talks preserve unusually direct explanations of the reasoning behind that difficult command. They also preserve operational experience that could otherwise disappear from the Navy's institutional memory.
