Metal Storm's very high rate of fire does not help against a target outside its line of fire. A fixed bunker entrance offers a task where the likely approach is much more constrained. Several systems could cover the entrance while allowing one to be reloaded as another remained available to fire. Sustained protection would therefore depend on the position of the target and the arrangements for reloading.
