Why a small merchant-ship silhouette mattered

At 1,250 tons and dressed as a small merchant vessel, a Flower Q-ship could look like an unthreatening target to a submarine.

Notes

The sloop combined a strong naval hull with a misleading civilian silhouette. At 1,250 tons, she was substantial but could still resemble a very small, ordinary merchant ship. That appearance encouraged a hunting submarine to read her as a target rather than as an armed threat. Even the unusual paint scheme shown in the video gave little warning of the naval structure and weapons behind the disguise.
