MEKO scales hulls and machinery while its stealth evolves

The MEKO 140, 200, and 360 families show configurable hull and machinery choices, followed by a visual comparison of older and newer radar-signature design.

Notes

MEKO buyers can choose among the 140, 200, and 360 hull families, different propulsion arrangements, and different mission capabilities within a common design method. The smaller 140 offers a cheaper option, while diesel or gas-turbine machinery can be selected to suit the requirement. Australian ANZAC ships illustrate an earlier, more cluttered MEKO 200 layout. The visual comparison favours the cleaner topsides of South African Valour-class and Algerian examples as better suited to reducing radar return. This is an assessment of their shape, without measured radar-performance figures. Egypt's use of the family and a possible German MEKO A200D, associated here with F128, are mentioned tentatively. Modularity still leaves room for successive designs to change hull size, machinery, and radar-signature treatment.
