Sea control as a North African supply solution

Control of the Mediterranean could have helped Italy sustain North African operations by moving supplies by sea when roads, railways, and overland logistics could not keep pace.

Notes

The video links naval power to the practical geography of the North African campaign. Even temporary Mediterranean control could provide naval gunfire support to troops moving along the coast. Coastal convoys could also keep supplies moving by sea, reducing dependence on inadequate roads and railways. This is as much a logistics problem as a battle-fleet problem: reliable maritime supply between ports could extend an army's reach beyond the hub where its overland system normally ran out.
