Maya has 96 vertical-launch cells, while the first Sejong the Great batch paired 128 cells with 16 anti-ship missiles. Its Arleigh Burke-family sensor suite includes AN/SPY-1D(V), AN/SPY-9B surface-search radar, three AN/SPG-62 illuminators, AN/SQQ-89 with SQS-53C sonar, and a Mark 46 optical sight. SM-2, SM-3, and SM-6 missiles provide air and ballistic-missile defense. Japan adds the Type 07 VL-ASROC, Type 97 or Type 12 torpedoes, and eight Type 17 anti-ship missiles in two quad canisters. These choices keep the proven American air-defense core while tailoring the weapons around Japanese requirements.
