At 255 metres, the enlarged Invincible would still be almost 30 metres shorter than the 284-metre Queen Elizabeth class. The programme could nevertheless encourage a larger or more international successor design. Two Canadian ships would suit a force concentrated on the Atlantic coast, while Australia could seek more than its initial pair. India and possibly Japan could also join during the 1980s. The attraction would be a modern aviation capability with less dependence on another country's specialist carrier infrastructure.
