The initial personnel estimate is about 750 in the ship's company, 450 in the air group and capacity for up to 500 marines. The air-group figure is deliberately conservative and could be closer to 600. The estimate aims to keep the cost of additional personnel as low as possible. Gas-turbine machinery is part of the reason the ship's company would grow less quickly than the hull and aviation capacity. The proposed weapons include Sea Dart, Sea Wolf and 20 mm anti-aircraft guns. Phalanx or Goalkeeper would probably arrive after the Falklands War, with no firm assumption of earlier fitting. The existing radar and sonar approach is retained.
