Sea Kings offer anti-submarine warfare, commando transport and other helicopter tasks. Adding Sea Harriers brings strike and air defence, with later reconnaissance pods extending the aircraft's uses. These capabilities remain useful despite their limited reach. Comparing headline performance figures alone cannot establish whether an aircraft or warship suits a particular navy. A procurement decision needs to consider the jobs the force intends to perform and the capabilities it lacks. The enlarged air group proposed for Britain and its partners needs to meet those requirements.
