An imperial victory as a fait accompli for Washington

Victory before the American Civil War ended would change the intervention problem facing the United States.

Notes

A completed imperial victory would present Washington with an established outcome when the Civil War ended. French forces would raise the danger that an attempt to reverse it became a war with France. Possible British involvement adds another uncertainty, depending on Britain's interests at the time. The argument therefore makes timing and outside powers' priorities part of the proposed deterrent.
