Why Brown preferred head-on attacks against the Condor

Brown's combat account explains the appeal and hazards of head-on attacks against a heavily defended Condor.

Notes

A later quarter attack met an alert Condor crew and cost one Martlet, reinforcing Brown's preference for attacking head-on. Reaching the right position proved difficult, and the rapid closing speed made firing and avoiding a collision demanding. His first attack arose partly from a chance meeting after losing the target in cloud; the second was more deliberately arranged. Condor crews also used cloud cover and maneuvered to bring defensive guns to bear, so interceptions did not consistently succeed. Another successful head-on attack ended in a collision that the Martlet survived.
