Market Garden's narrow corridor and missing support

Market Garden is presented as a planning and sustainment problem rather than evidence that Allied soldiers remained ineffective late in the war.

Notes

The operation captured two of its three principal bridges but depended on everything reaching Arnhem through one exposed ground corridor. A second armoured thrust, more bridging capacity, or an amphibious move could have supported the advance and complicated the German response. Without those measures, the plan asked a narrow line of movement to carry too much operational risk. The example shifts attention from the courage or competence of individual troops to the design and sustainment of the operation created by senior Allied commanders.
