Mark 41 VLS and a modern Perry fit

An evolved Perry could combine Mark 41 VLS, box-launched Harpoon, Standard missiles, ASROC, ESSM, existing guns, and a new radar fit.

Notes

In the continued-production scenario, later-built Perrys could gain Mark 41 VLS in the forward space occupied by Mark 13 and its magazine. The proposed installation would probably require a longer bow. Harpoon would move to two quad box launchers, retaining eight missiles separately from the VLS. Eight-cell modules allow either a 32-cell or 48-cell installation. The 48-cell example carries 32 SM-2s, eight ASROCs and eight quad-packed ESSM cells holding another 32 missiles. The 32-cell alternative retains eight ASROCs and 32 ESSMs but reduces the Standard missile load to 16. ASROC would add a weapon absent from the original Perry fit and help cover missions left by retiring escorts. The 76 mm gun, Phalanx, two triple torpedo launchers and long-hull aviation facilities could remain. Moving the gun to the bow would compete with the VLS for scarce space. These are proposed arrangements for an evolved frigate, with no completed installation design established here.
