Maritime resupply changes the normal logic of a siege. If ships can refresh food, water, equipment, and defenders, an attacker cannot simply wait for the garrison to be worn down. The besiegers remain exposed to weather and must sustain their own supply line while the defenders shelter behind walls. That pressure pushes attackers toward siege engines or a direct storming attempt. Castles that fall by assault often do so when their garrisons have been badly organized or left too weak to exploit the defensive advantage.
