John Frayn Turner's Periscope Patrol supplies a roll call of the officers who commanded Upright, Utmost, Unique, Upholder, Urge and the numbered P-class submarines. The discussion singles out Upholder's commander, Malcolm David Wanklyn, and lists his Victoria Cross and Distinguished Service Order with two bars before noting the posthumous status. Captain G. W. G. Simpson's headquarters included operational, engineering and staff officers who sustained the flotilla ashore. Their CBE and OBE awards also recognise the maintainers and planners behind the patrols.
