Malta convoy pressure and recovery in 1942

The 1942 convoy record moves from severe losses and failed deliveries toward more regular eastern arrivals late in the year.

Notes

The Malta convoy struggle reached its worst pressure in 1942 rather than remaining equally intense throughout the siege. The January and February sailings produced mixed results, and the later Harpoon, Vigorous, and Pedestal operations brought severe losses or failed deliveries. By October, direct fighter ferry modifications were changing the air picture. From November, ships sailing from Port Said and Alexandria began reaching Malta more regularly as land-based air cover and the campaign ashore improved the route.
