What three extra months change in Malaya

Malaya remains vulnerable, but troops gain local experience, some defences are dug, and unused airfields may no longer be waiting intact for Japanese capture.

Notes

Hard fighting and a Japanese advance remain likely, but the delay changes the starting conditions in Malaya. British troops have time to learn the terrain and become more familiar with jungle operations. Some defensive positions can be prepared even if the higher command remains weak. Airfields that lack aircraft and guards may be abandoned to rapid jungle growth instead of remaining useful facilities for an attacker. None of these changes repairs the campaign's structural problems, but together they make the historical Japanese timetable less certain.
