The Dutch East Indies do not gain a large new garrison simply because the invasion is delayed. British forces in Malaya have more time to organize, but the command assessment remains pessimistic about a staff mix that includes junior officers and veterans sent east to recover from earlier wartime service. The Army had also treated the Far East largely as a naval responsibility. The Royal Navy, meanwhile, was already fighting in the Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Arctic while covering the Indian Ocean and South Atlantic. A delay can improve local readiness, but it cannot make ships or experienced staffs appear where none are available.

Extra time does not repair Allied command in Malaya
Three more months improve preparation without replacing Malaya's weak command mix or freeing a Royal Navy already committed across several theatres.
