Mahan's later works and strategic dialogue with Corbett

Mahan's later publications ranged across contemporary war, Asia, administration, memoir, strategy, and international relations while sustaining a public conversation with Corbett.

Notes

Mahan's later works ranged well beyond The Influence of Sea Power upon History. The Lessons of the War with Spain and Other Articles examined recent events, while The Problem of Asia extended his work into international relations. Around 1900, Mahan was already presenting Japan as a strategic concern even though Japanese readers were among those most affected by his ideas. Reflections, Historic and Other responded to the Battle of Tsushima, and From Sail to Steam supplied his own account of naval life. Naval Administration and Warfare and Naval Strategy then extended his treatment of institutions and operations. Naval Strategy formed part of a larger exchange with Julian Corbett carried on through books and correspondence, creating a public strategic debate in both countries.
