Machine-learning speed and pilot instinct

A machine can rehearse air combat at great speed, while a pilot brings the instinctive use of accumulated experience.

Notes

The F-16 system entered the test after extensive simulated three-dimensional combat. Its speed lets it optimize aircraft performance and project likely moves from repeated experience. Human instinct also combines prior experience with present information, so it can be understood as another form of learned response. The difference lies in the scale, speed, and flexibility with which a machine or pilot applies what it has learned.
