Command spaces packed into M33's compact hull

The officers' mess, radio and navigation spaces, and an open junior-officer cabin show how M33 fitted command functions into a hull with no wasted room.

Notes

The tour moves from the officers' main mess through the radio, telegraph, and navigator's working spaces, all compressed around the fighting ship's needs. A junior officer received writing space and the necessary fittings but no door, a reminder that rank bought limited privacy aboard such a small monitor. M33 predated computer-aided design and other modern construction tools, yet virtually no space was wasted. Communication, navigation, administration, and accommodation all fitted around the machinery and guns without blurring the ship's tightly defined purpose.
