Chapter · 21:06-27:20

Mediterranean, Baltic, and Western Front service

Individual M15-class careers reveal Mediterranean and Baltic deployments, mine and torpedo losses, and the transfer of M21's heavy gun to land artillery.

Notes

M15 was sunk by UC-38 in 1917, while M16 through M20 illustrate the class's broad Mediterranean employment, including support for Dardanelles operations. M17 and M18 continued into Baltic service in 1919, showing that the class's operational use outlasted the armistice. The launch and service dates show how quickly these March 1915 orders reached operational waters. M19 survived a serious gun explosion, while several sisters found a second life carrying oil after the war. M21 makes the land-sea connection especially clear: its main gun was removed for the Western Front before the monitor joined the Dover Patrol and was lost to a mine in 1918.
