Could longer-lived M-class hulls have served as World War II escorts?

A counterfactual considers whether galvanized hulls could have kept more M-class destroyers available for later coastal convoy work.

Notes

Galvanized construction might have allowed more World War I destroyers to survive long enough for World War II escort duties. In this counterfactual, the M class's range and speed would remain useful for coastal convoy work. Existing 4-inch guns and pom-poms offer a starting armament, with changes to gun mountings proposed to permit high- and low-angle fire. Torpedo equipment could be removed to make room for other systems. Their suitability relative to the later V/W class remains qualified, and none of these proposed adaptations is presented as an actual M-class refit programme.
