An alternative concept uses an LPD-like command ship with docking space for uncrewed missile vessels. The craft could come aboard to rearm and then return to patrol, while the command ship carries weapons of its own. This would replace the long return journey to a home port with replenishment from a ship accompanying the force. A supply ship would still have to deliver ammunition and other stores to the tender. The proposed hull volume is connected with room to handle VLS reloading at sea, though the number of uncrewed craft and supporting helicopters remains to be worked out. The San Antonio-derived cruiser idea supplies an example of the missile capacity available in an LPD hull. The concept is described as a large and complicated option.

An LPD could tend uncrewed missile vessels
A large command-and-support ship with a well deck offers one way to rearm and control distributed missile vessels without sending every empty unit home.
