A broken allied battle line unravels the blockade

Leadership and coalition coordination failed at the next crisis, allowing the Ottomans to break the blockade and recover the islands that anchored it.

Notes

In 1657 the Ottoman fleet evaded the blockade while the Christian commanders failed to coordinate as effectively as they had under Morosini. Grand Vizier Köprülü Mehmed Pasha had been granted broad powers and took direct strategic control of the Ottoman recovery. Although Venetian forces caused heavy casualties, the destruction of the flagship encouraged the allies to withdraw. With support from the Barbary states, the Grand Vizier then recovered Lemnos and Tenedos, undoing the naval position that had most endangered Ottoman supply lines.
