Long-range missiles still need a moving target's position

Missile speed and range do not remove the need for reconnaissance and updates against a moving ship, leaving sensors as a vulnerable part of the attack.

Notes

A long-range missile needs to know where a ship will be when the weapon arrives. Even a hypersonic weapon with a nominal range of 1,000 nautical miles requires targeting information and probably midcourse guidance. Satellites can supply useful data, and drones can help if they have enough range. Those reconnaissance links are identified as a weak part of the attack system. The implication for defense is to examine the target information that makes the missile useful as well as the speed of the weapon itself.
