Two Dominion Lions would make a four-ship squadron

Two upgraded Dominion ships would join Lion and Princess Royal in a four-ship squadron and offer a closer comparison with Japan's Kongo.

Replacing Australia and New Zealand with Lion types would put four such battlecruisers alongside the four existing 12-inch ships. The two Dominion vessels would probably incorporate incremental improvements toward Queen Mary. They would join Lion and Princess Royal as a coherent squadron. A 13.5-inch flagship would also look much closer on paper to Japan's 14-inch Kongo than a 12-inch ship did. That comparison does not make Lion an exact equivalent of Kongo, which is judged closer to Tiger.
