Laver and Mills reached the eastern side of the docks but found no vessels worth attacking in their assigned area. They adapted without waiting for new orders and moved Crayfish to Bassens, where they attached five mines to a cargo ship and three to a small liner. The two kayaks briefly met by chance while withdrawing on the ebb tide, then continued downriver until about 06:00. After beaching the craft, the four raiders split into pairs because two men moving overland were less conspicuous than a group of four.
