Chapter · 1:50:30-1:55:12

Catfish and Crayfish mine six ships

Catfish attacks four vessels at Bordeaux, while Crayfish searches farther along the river and mines two ships at Bassens before both crews begin their escape.

Notes

Hasler and Sparks began at about 21:00 on 11 December and placed eight limpet mines on four vessels. One target was a Sperrbrecher, where a sentry shone a torch toward the water without finding their canoe. They continued working around the harbour until about 01:00. Laver and Mills found no targets in their assigned eastern area and moved to Bassens, where they attached five mines to a large cargo ship and three to a small liner. The two crews met again near an island and paddled together until about 06:00 before setting off separately toward Spain. French gendarmes apprehended Laver and Mills two days later and handed them to the Germans.
